Portes is the Greek game closest to international backgammon. Race your checkers around the board and bear them off before your opponent. Land on a lone opposing checker to hit it to the bar; it must re-enter before its owner can move elsewhere. Every roll asks you to balance speed with smart defense.

In Plakoto, a lone checker is never hit to the bar. Instead, landing on an opposing checker pins it beneath yours. It stays trapped until the covering checker moves away, turning each point into a contest of timing, control and careful positioning.
